Instructions for Sending Lymph Node Biopsies to Pathology WGH

  1. The specimen must arrive at WGH no later than 4:30pm -  arrange the operation accordingly to allow transport time including possible delays. If this is not possible please contact the Pathology laboratory.
  2. Prior to operation, telephone pathology at WGH to warn them of impending arrival (0131 537 1963). Please provide:
    1. Patients Name & DoB
    2. Source (theatre and hospital)
    3. Contact name and number.
  3. Wrap node in gauze swab moistened with saline. Place into a sterile universal container.
  4. Make out a standard Pathology form. Mark it URGENT in bold text.
  5. Apply URGENT labelling to the OUTSIDE of the packing or bag.

  7. Hand the driver a copy of the Instructions for Taxi / Courier to Pathology Department in WGH. Please stress that the exact destination is important.
