Cervical samples received by the laboratory are forwarded to NHS LANARKSHIRE for primary High-risk Human Papilloma Virus (hr-HPV) testing. If hr-HPV is found a sample will be prepared and screened in order to detect premalignant and malignant changes in cervical epithelial cells. This forms part of the screening service provided to women in Lothian and the Borders by the Scottish Cervical Screening Programme, based in NHS LANARKSHIRE''.

Cervical smears should be requested online using the Scottish Cervical Call Recall System (SCCRS). Paper request forms will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances. Copies of request forms can be downloaded from SCCRS.

For SCCRS assistance contact ATOS on 0845 9572700 or email smc.nhsis@atosorigin.com Do not contact the screening laboratory. For queries about the screening service please email: cervicalscreeningqueries@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk
