Clinical Scientists work alongside the BMSs and contribute to the specialist tests for diagnosing and monitoring of disease. They will often have a clinical input as well as the technical input to a patient’s treatment. Many CSs specialise in a specific field within their chosen discipline and will have remits for the research and development and education and training within their department.

To work as a Clinical Scientist you must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) who are a regulatory body overseeing many professions including Biomedical and Clinical Scientists. To register with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist, you must complete a Clinical Scientist Training Programme (STP) or complete a portfolio of work which demonstrates an equivalent level of skills, knowledge and experience to the STP, Clinical Scientist Training Programme.
