Blood Borne Virus Laboratory, Edinburgh

Introduction

The Blood Borne Virus Specialist Testing Service (BBV STS) in Lothian is commissioned by National Services Scotland (NSS). It is located in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian.

BBV STS provides a range of confirmatory and specialist tests for BBVs, including HIV resistance testing and HCV genotyping. It also makes available epidemiological information to agencies and individuals as appropriate including HPS to enable monitoring and surveillance. It is split between two sites, the Specialist Virology Centre, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre, Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

This information is intended for use by healthcare professionals working in specialist BBV services in Scotland. It is not intended for use by patients or non specialists.
