Transport arrangements

Useful in: Presence of a dermatological lesion consistent with cutaneous leishmaniasis, in a patient who has travelled to an endemic area.

Processed at the Scottish Parasite Diagnostic & Reference Laboratory (SPDRL), Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Please send to the RIE for forwarding.

Transport as soon as is practicable.

Store at room temperature.

Special instructions for collection

Contact SPDRL on 0141 242 9631 in advance if testing for Leishmaniasis is required.

Skin biopsy/skin swab from the raised edge of the lesion. Avoid the use of iodine when taking a skin biopsy, as this can inhibit downstream PCR reactions.

Request using paper form.

​This is a referred test so should be sent Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
