Transport arrangements
Useful in: Fever and hepatosplenomegaly from endemic areas. Negative serology does not exclude the diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis, especially if the patient is HIV positive. It is not helpful in the diagnosis of cutaneous infection. Definitive diagnosis is made via molecular assays of aspirated material.
Processed at the Scottish Parasite Diagnostic & Reference Laboratory (SPDRL), Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Please send to the RIE for forwarding.Transport as soon as is practicable.
Sample storage arrangements
Store at room temperature.
Special instructions for collection
