Special instructions for collection

24 hour urine samples need to be taken into both an acidified and plain container. 

Patients are advised to refrain from taking excessive amounts of vitamin C or vitamin C rich foods for 48h prior to collection.

General additional information

Urine stone screen includes calcium, phosphate, sodium, magnesium, urate, oxalate, cystine, citrate. 

Oxalate and cystine analysis are performed at WGH only. 

Citrate analysis is performed at UCLH.
