Special instructions for collection
Please supply date of onset of symptoms.
If sample is within 7 days of onset Leptospira PCR can be requested on the same sample used for Serology.
Leptospira PCR can also be requested on a urine in a white top universal up to 21 days after onset of symptoms. The urine sample must be accompanied by a clotted blood sample or it will not be tested.
EDTA blood is not required for Leptospira PCR
How to request
This is a test processed by Virology please check 'Referred Tests Not Listed' in the Test Directory; this has a list of the requirements.
Anticipated turnaround
PCR - 5 working days
ELISA - 7 working days
Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT) - 12 working days
What happens if the result is positive or abnormal
A report will be issued. The result may be telephoned or e-mailed if clinically appropriate.
